Phil and I have been in the magic business for over 35 years and I always find it fascinating when a magician tells me what inspired him or her to do magic. What was the trick that impressed them? Did they get a magic kit? Where did they see a magician and how old were they. I also ask them if they could give one piece of advice or a tip to an aspiring magician.
Richard Sanders said I am to blame for his entry into magic. His grandfather brought him in the shop when he was 11 and said, ” The kid is shy. Do something for him.” I showed him the mental photo deck and he was hooked. The rest is history.
There are other magicians who have shared their stories with us, such as Ted Outerbridge, Gene Anderson, David Acer. Michael Ammar, Jean Boucher, to name a few. I was going through Canada’s Magic and came across this Youtube bit created by a boy who loved magic and his idol was Shawn Farquar. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Do you have a story you’d like to share or a tip for beginners? We’d love to hear from you.
